Q*bert is a game in the Q*bert series. It is developed by Lucky Kat and Sony Pictures and was released on the iphone App Store on October 11, 2019 and is a sequel/reboot of the Q*bert franchise. So far the game has been released only for iOS & Android. This installment of Q*bert offers an arcade mode with a life system along side regular gameplay through a long series of levels interspersed with advertisements. This version also sees Q*bert return to a pixel art style.

Gameplay

This version of Q*bert utilizes the touch screen for gameplay. At the title screen Q*bert stands at the starting position of whichever level the player is on, and the moment they swipe in any direction, Q*bert moves and the camera zooms out to reveal the rest of the stage.

In each level, you are tasked with painting the arena all one color, while avoiding hazards and enemies. Periodically, you are challenged to a boss fight, in which you are trapped in an arena with a large enemy that takes up 4 squares of the board until you manage to turn the field all one color.

As you progress through levels, you earn coins which you can spend on either skins or ability upgrades. The player may also earn or buy shields which will protect Q*bert for a limited period of time, which can be lengthened through upgrades.

This installment includes the ability to unlock alternate skins as you play and level up. For some skins this involves saving up in game currency, watching ads, or spinning a chance wheel. There are also VIP berts which are only available through the game's VIP subscription.
